“Improving the Outcome of Renal Diseases”

It is a great pleasure to announce that the first Annual Conference of the Saudi Society of Nephrology will be held from 21st to 23rd of February 2006. This meeting will be held in collaboration with the International Society of Nephrology at Jeddah Intercontinental Hotel. Many internationally renowned speakers have agreed to contribute to this long-waited event. The scientific committee has decided that the theme of this meeting will be “Improving the Outcome of Renal Diseases”. This conference will host five “State-of-the-Art-Lectures” one in the morning and one in the afternoon. It will also include two daily short clinical symposia, conducted by well-recognized international and local speakers. There will be one Clinico- pathological correlation, one registry data and two sessions of free communications.

The importance of nursing in nephrology cannot be over-emphasized, for such reason a parallel session for nurses will be conducted concurrently in the morning. Roberta Blakely will be organizing the nursing program.

Professor Abdul-Majid El-Nahas from Sheffield, UK will lead the conference with his state-of-the-art lecture “Detection and Prevention of CKD”. Professor Robert Lindsay from London, Ontario, Canada will lead the first afternoon session with a state-of-the-art lecture on “Optimizing the efficacy of Haemodialysis”. The second day, Professor Rashad Barsoum will give a state-of-the-art lecture on “CKD; the gateway to cardiovascular diseases”. Professor Norbert Lameire, from Ghent, Belgium will give a state-of-the-art-lecture on “Acute Renal Failure in the ICU; risk stratification, prevention and management”. The third day, Professor G. Remuzzi from Italy will give a state-of-the-art lecture on “New immunosuppressive therapies towards tolerogenic regimens in Human”. Professor M. Francis will lead and discuss the CPC(clinico-pathological correlations) and the value of kidney biopsy in diagnosing Acute Renal Failure. There will be 5 short clinical symposia, spread over 3 days, which will touch on various aspects of renal disease and transplantation. These courses will be given by the international speakers as well as well-known local speakers from all over the Kingdom.

As it has been mentioned, we will have one session for short communications and daily poster presentations. This will give all nephrologists and interested physicians to present their research in this important event. There will be an exhibition giving the medical industry a chance to interact with end-users.

On behalf of the organizing and scientific committees it gives us a great honour to invite you to actively participate in this meeting by attending this long-waited conference. The Jeddah Intercontinental Hotel is the site of the conference and the headquarters for the SSN meeting. Alternative Hotel accommodation will be the Crowne Plaza Hotel, which is only few meters away from the conference halls.
